Purpose of the role

As an Assistant General Manager (AGM) in the Transport & Infrastructure (T&I) department of Ecorys India, the candidate will provide technical and business development support in project processing and implementation. The position covers:

  • direct administration of government or funded technical assistance (TA) projects in highway sector
  • leading business development activities of Ecorys in the Transportation sector with a strong focus on highways.

This is a mid-management level position within the team and expects the person to take responsibility and initiative for leading implementing ongoing transport related projects with a special focus on engineering aspects, acquisition processes (bid management) as well as contributing to increasing effectiveness and efficiency of the project management practices within Ecorys India.

By the nature of the projects which Ecorys is, or would like to be, involved in, anyone joining the team needs to be flexible and prepared to get involved with a range of transport-related projects and in a range of roles. The person must also be able to work at both a strategic and detailed level, and be prepared to “roll their sleeves up” to do whatever is necessary to deliver the project including travel for field works.

Your key responsibilities

Project Management

  • Administering implementation of assigned projects in the transport sector by monitoring progress, actively identifying issues and taking actions to address them
  • Contributing to the engineering components of projects either as a technical expert or in a non-key expert / backstopping role
  • Reviewing the Engineering component of ongoing Projects including surveys, data collection, data analysis, report writing and client presentations
  • Supporting the Team Leaders in successfully delivering Projects
  • Managing the overall project finances and ensure delivery within the agreed timelines and internal working budgets
  • Undertaking other internal project administration activities for the assigned projects as required

Business Development

  • Coordinating, Managing and leading the team in the preparation of EOIs and Proposals
  • Maintaining strong relationships with technical writers and establish contact lists
  • Identifying external experts in the line of company’s business domain and contribute in building the expert database
  • Presenting and attend seminars, exhibitions and network meetings
  • Building relationships with funding agencies including World Bank, ADB, DFID, central and state governments, etc.
  • Ensuring high quality project management of existing and new projects in T&I
  • Providing technical inputs in preparing tender documents such as Expressions of Interest and Requests for Proposal
  • Building partnerships with like-minded consulting firms and associate experts
  • Contributing to the geographical expansion of Ecorys in India and South Asia

Your skills and experience

  • Bachelors in Civil Engineering with Post graduate degree in transportation, engineering, planning, structural design or related field
  • 8+ years of experience in public sector consulting (5 years should be in highways)
  • Proven track record of successfully managing infrastructure projects funded by IFIs viz. World Bank, ADB, etc
  • Deep understanding of engineering issues through consultancy assignments especially in carrying out techno economic feasibility studies and detailed project reports
  • Conducted field investigations at preliminary and detailed design stages of highway sector consultancy projects
  • Strong network and database of experts in the above sectors
  • Strong presentation and communication skills
  • Self-starter with a flexible attitude capable of delivering results in an unstructured environment, across different sectors
  • Collaborative team player, with the ability to work on their own initiative as required
  • Ability to work across international and organisational boundaries
  • Professional experience with like-minded consulting organisations at a similar level
  • Strong command over spoken and written English
